welcome to el nido :)
el nido mail is a monthly subscription that aims to make your month a tiny bit less heavy. un nido/um ninho/a nest is the first home a newborn will see; it will provide it with feelings of warmth, safety and cosiness that it will spend the rest of its life trying to return to.
we all know that time never runs as slowly and peacefully as when we were children, and most of us will grow up missing when each moment seemed to extend and last until eternity. sometimes we need to go back to homes and places where time still runs in that way – and el nido is one of those places.
while every subscription these days are digital, this one is not. every month you will receive a fiction story and a letter, crafted by us & a postcard and a sticker, all designed and printed by us too. the themes of the month will change depending on what that months feel to us, the cultural and symbolic meanings behind it, and the sensations and thoughts we want to accompany you during that period.
we love reading, we love researching, we love books and we love discovering new books for other people. tell us what you are into and we will come up with a personalised suggestion, from humans to humans.
who is behind el nido?
this project was started by carolina and alejandro, a couple living in porto. one afternoon we were enjoying a drink in a park, sun was shining, the bell of the church was striking and resonating through the city and we opened her journal and started writing a story – alejandro wrote about the bells and a village was raised by carolina and her magic. this is something we started doing and the journals started getting packed with stories collecting dust. for months now, we have been filling pages with characters, narratives and poems written by four hands; we spend hours passing the journal back and forward, and, as one of us is writing, it is also warming the page for the other and what comes next. our story started in one of those shared poems, the answer of one responding to the question of the other. that’s how this project started, too.
we share many passions, including writing, drawing, crafting letters and creating with our hands, so we thought we joined everything into a mail club. we pour everything we have for you every month, hope you like it! with love, carolina y alejandro.
